00000011468.thumbnail.jpgThere are times I doubt the conversion experience, like when John Sweeney the man who strangled Dominque Dunne to death, appeared at his trial with a Bible.

But I was was willing to give X Gamer and free style motocross rider Brian Deegan the benefit of the doubt. After he suffered a near-fatal crash in 2005 while attempting a back flip during filming for a television show,  loosing a kidney and four pints of blood, he made a deal with God: If he pulled through, he’d stop being  a rabid, brawling party animal. God and modern medicine saved him, and he decided that God of his choice was Jesus, the new cool, Jesus of post modern marketing. He and most of his team, Metal Mulisha converted. And now, as he told the New York Times:

All the heavy hitters of the Mulisha are born-again Christians. I started tripping. ‘What are the fans going to think?’ I started getting nervous…

In the end I said, who’s more radical than us? Everything we do is full-on. Once we went to church, we were full-on Christians, too. And we’re going to go for it. On the mic, I’ll say it. On TV, say it. The next thing you know, I have way more people pumped on me.

"Pumped on me"? Uh…I think the idea of evangelism is to get people pumped on Jesus, not oneself!
