According to this Miami Herald article, Alcee Hastings (D-FL) a true fierce advocate, was forced under pressure from Congressional colleagues as well as the WHITEHOUSE to withdraw an Amendment he introduced to the Defense Bill that would strip funding for investigating and the discharging of gay and lesbian servicemembers. 

Here is just a tidbit of what Hastings had to say:

“I introduced an amendment to H.R. 3326, now withdrawn, prohibiting the use of funds in this bill to investigate or discharge our dedicated service men and women on the grounds of ‘telling’ their sexual orientation….Due to pressure from some of my Congressional colleagues and from the White House, I have withdrawn my amendment.”

Thank you for trying Rep. Hastings. At least we know you are a real fierce advocate. As for our “Commander-in-Chief,” NOT so much.
