Tonight David Letterman explained again that he was joking about Bristol not Willow, and that

It kind of a coarse joke, there’s no getting around it…and before the show I checked to make sure she was over 18. The joke in andof itself can’t really be defended…I had honestly no idea the 14 year old girl I had no idea that anybody was at the ballgame but the governor and I was told at the time she  was there with Rudy Guiliani. And I really should have the joke about Rudy…I can understand why people would be upset. I would be upset myself…It’s the perception, rather than the intent, it doesn’t make any difference what my intent was, it’s the perception and as they say about jokes, if you have to explain the joke it’s not a very good joke.

Well, my responsibility, I take full blame for that. I told a bad joke, I told a joke that was beyond flawed and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception. And since it was a joke I told, I feel I need  to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke…It’s not your fault it was misunderstood, it’s my fault it was misunderstood.  So I would like to apologize especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and the governor and her family and everyone else who was ouraged about the joke and I will try to do better in the future.

Meanwhile, we got this email in support of Letterman announcing a counterprotest to the demonstration scheduled for tomorrow in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman tapes his show. Makes me wish I was in New York City…

We are The Slutty Stewardess Association.  We support David Letterman’s right to poke fun at Sarah Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol.  Bristol Palin an adult and a public figure.  She was thrust into the spotlight by her ambitious, media hungry mother, Sarah Palin, who also is worth making fun of!  Girlfriend is fair game! Letterman was not mocking the other daughter, 14-year-old Willow.  Who the heck is Willow? Which one is she anyway?!

We are The Slutty Stewardess Association.  We may be ASS backwards, but we know comedy.  Support David Letterman!

The call to fire Letterman is ridiculous!  There is an anti-Letterman protest Tuesday, June 16.  We are urging everyone to come to the Ed Sullivan Theater, Tuesday, June 16 at 4:30 pm and counter-protest in  support of David Letterman and the right to poke fun at public figures.

"Everyone" especially includes our fellow drag queens, those who wear too much blue eye shadow, fans of David Letterman, and free speech advocates.  Put on your shortest skirts, strap on an extra high Bumpit, and feel free to bring a copy of "Coffee, Tea, or Me."

The Fire David Letterman protest is co-sponsored by Michael Leahy, a founder of the Tea Bag Protest.  (So yes dahlings, there will be teabagging!)  See the crazy-ass website here:

Slutty Stewardess Association supports David Letterman Rally, Tuesday, June 16 at 4:30pm, Ed Sullivan Theater, 1697 Broadway, New York, NY

UPDATE: CNN’s Headline is reporting that Palin has accepted Letterman’s apology. Now it’s time for her to deal with her party’s racism
