This is a really solid, encouraging point from former Albanian PM and current Social Movement Party leader Ilir Meta on free and fair elections in Albania:

“It is encouraging to see that our upcoming elections, which are critical to Albania’s progress towards Western integration, have garnered significantinternational attention and EU support.  My hope is that the current Albanian government will cooperate with international election monitoring groups and help ensure that these elections set a new advanced standard for Albania.

“The June 28 elections present a critical opportunity for Albania to prove our commitment to democracy. As a new NATO member and a recent applicant for EU membership, Albania is relying on these elections to develop our reputation as a young democratic nation.  In order to accomplish this goal, the U.S. and international election monitors must take an active role to ensure our June 28 elections are free and fair.”

Also: why am I receiving press releases about Albania. I know nothing about Albania. I’m not going to know anything about Albania. Who’s Ilan Meta? I’m not going to so much as Google him. Let’s end this charade and part as friends.
