Mike Musto and the Bad Thing (Transfolk)

On April 30th, Keith Olbermann discussed the issue with Carrie Prejean and the flap about her abominable stance on the right of kinship for all Americans.

In the process, he brought on Mike Musto, a popular “comedic” writer for the Village Voice. Riffing off of the “boob jobs are a bad thing” meme expressed by Olbermann in noting the beauty pageant loser's breast augmentation was paid for by the Pageant committee, Mr. Musto launched into a series of personal attack that had little real bite but are just the sort that the old stereotype of a flaming queen is supposedly so good at making:

Well, she’s dumb and twisted. She’s sort of like a human Klaus Barbie Doll. I mean, you tell Perez Hilton you’re against gay marriage? That’s like telling Simon Cowell you’re against screeching a show tune. This is the kind of girl who sits on the TV and watches the sofa. You know, she thinks innuendo is a Italian suppository.

Can I keep going? On the pageants now, they really should have easier questions, like what’s your middle name or what show was Seinfeld on. I mean, this girl’s a ding-dong. I didn’t even like her earrings.

And then the bepectacled Musto, caught up in the moment and his own self importance, decided that transfolk — and transwomen, in particular — were something to use as an insult, a horrible thing, which you gotta read…

below the fold (with video!)…

At roughly 3:20 in this video:

Musto said:

Yes, exactly, that’s it. This has escalated to a public shaving. I mean, and what Moakler has left out, Keith, is they also paid for Carrie to cut off her penis, and sand her Adam’s Apple and get a head-to-toe waxing. I know for a fact that Carrie Prejean was Harry Prejean, a homophobic man, who liked marriage so much he did it three times. Now he’s a babe who needs a brain implant. Maybe they could inject some fat from her butt. Oh, they have?

Now, I know many folks think this is harmless and funny. I mean, transfolk really don't care about this, and its a lot like those old Geico caveman commercials where the ugly brutes are picked on for less than stellar cranial capacity, only to discover they *actually exist*!! (OMG!).

Well, sorry, but just like calling Ann Coulter a transwoman isn't funny or cute or nice, calling Carrie Prejean one isn't funny, or cute, or nice.

Granted, it wasn't meant to be.  It was meant to be a sort of curse, a “bad thing” that happens to people, and *then* it plays on the whole deception thing that autumn has gone to great lengths to explore here.

In short, its the gay man's version of the trans panic call, the trans version of step-n-fetch it, and, bluntly, I find it exceedingly offensive that rather than come up with something truly damning, he turns to the very same prejudice used against him to condemn others.

So, without much more, please allow me to officially note that I know for a fact that Mike Musto is full of it, because I know for a fact Carrie Prejean is not a transsexual woman.

She's worse — a blonde, undereducated bigot from California sheltered from reality and buried in a church that gave her the idea she was something special in her looks and that her fondest wish is to make babies, cook for her husband, and avoid anything that actually resembles work.

(although I would like to make babies and already cook for my boyfriend and  would love to avoid anything resembling work except on transrights issues like losing a heel in Mike Musto's hind end…)
