That resolution Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) is expected to introduce Thursday calling for a naval communications channel with Iran? Republican Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Ky.) is going to co-introduce it. Here’s a statement that Davis just gave me through his office:

“As a former enlisted soldier and Army officer, the lives and safety of our service men and women have always been one of my top priorities as a member of Congress.  That is why I am pleased to introduce this resolution with my colleague, Chairman Conyers.  This resolution will enhance the safety of American sailors, if acted on by the Department of Defense, through negotiation of a military-to-military ‘Incidents at Sea’ agreement between the United States and Iran.

“The incident in January 2008 in the Straits of Hormuz between Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the U.S. Navy highlights the need for such an agreement.  A similar agreement was implemented successfully by the U.S. and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.”
