Will this bill have a chance?

State Sen. Nan Rich, a Weston Democrat who is co-chair of the Senate Children & Families Committee, has filed a bill to repeal the 1977 Florida law that prohibits gay men and lesbians from adopting children. A second bill would specify that judges would determine adoptions based solely on ”the best interests” of children.

”Someone who is a good parent — whether they are heterosexual or homosexual — that’s what we should be basing decisions on, not sexual orientation,” Rich said. “We need to be looking at what’s in the best interests of children.”

I thought the comments section was revealing. Here are a few:

Being a homosexual does not make you a bad parent or person but it provides the wrong message to a young child saying that homosexual behavoir is appropriate. Child have a hard enough time developing a personality. Far too many children thing they may have homosexual tendency when in fact they are just like any other confused children. We all have gone through those difficult times in our lives. Unfortunately there are people telling them they may be an homosexual when they are not which causes problems for the rest of thier lives.

The appropriate parenting duo is a man and woman, not one man, one woman, two women or two men. Please give the children a chance to develop like they should without the confusing message sent by being raised by homosexuals.

In a perfect world Mom would not be a crack head and Dad would be helping raise the family. Unfortunately that is not the case and that is why these kids are in this system to begin with. Being straight does not make you a good parent – it just gives you the ability to reproduce whether you should or not. Having children should be looked on as a privilege – not some bodily function.

And we wonder why our economy is in such poor condition. And why the crime rate is so high, especially against children. ummmm If we do not change our lifestyle back to normality, we can only expect it to get worse.

In what way is it “21st century” to prohibit children from having a mom and a dad? Why has the laws of biology all of a sudden been erased? tha fact that a child needs a father and a mother has suddenly vanished? Thanks to us being so “hipp” and “modern”?
