Jews have lived in many places and have always identified as an ethnic/religious group living within someone else’s country. Now they have Israel. Or perhaps it might be more accurate to say they have the Land of Israel or Zion or the pre-’67 border Israel or the diaspora of Israel.I think they keep asking the Palestinians for a peace treaty, so they can put the issue of Israel’s borders onto the Palestinians. Maybe if they would simply take a blank map, note where the "Israelis" live and draw a line around them and then the hard part…stay within those boundaries. It might be a shock to their feeling that they can go anywhere, but everyone would admire them for this decisiveness and the clarity it would bring. Then, they wouldn’t have to care whether their neighbors agreed or would "accept their right to exist" or anything. They would just defend Israel and live their lives. It’s a radical idea, but they might manage it.Imagine the Israelis NOT occupying and settling the West Bank. Imagine the American Jews NOT letting their friends in "Israel" get away with ‘retaining the right to acquire land outside of Israel’ (as PM Olmert recently said). Wouldn’t that be amazing. How does one retain a right that was never theirs to begin with?I suggest Tzipi Livni work to gain political power before telling anyone in the Jewish Community that they need to give up land for Peace. They’re not used to giving up land when they really want to just go anywhere they like.Where is Israel? So far it’s a state of mind that exists everywhere, kinda like George W. Bush’s Global War on Terror. It’s everywhere and nowhere.
