Ideas for Change: second-round voting underway!

Last month I posted about’s Ideas for Change in America competition:

The top 10 rated ideas will be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009 as the “Top 10 Ideas for America.” We will then launch a national campaign behind each idea and mobilize the collective energy of the millions of members of, MySpace, and partner organizations to ensure that each winning idea gets the full consideration of the Obama Administration and Members of Congress.

First-round voting wrapped up on December 31, and the top three ideas in each category made it to the finals — including mine, Get FISA Right, repeal the PATRIOT Act, and restore our civil liberties, which finished #2 in the Criminal Justice category.

There are several LGBTQ-oriented ideas:

  1. Pass Marriage Equality Rights for LGBT couples nationwide, submitted by Jen Nadeau, currently #4 overall
  2. Work with Congress to Pass the Matthew Shepard Act, submitted by Mike Jones
  3. repeal DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act, submitted by Michael Fustolo
  4. Equal Immigration Rights for Same Sex Binational Couples, submitted by Amos Lim has set things up to encourage people to promote ideas — embedding widgets, sending out links, etc.  During the last couple of days of the first round, an idea that was featured on Daily Kos picked up over 1000 votes and vaulted from #13 in the “Other” category to #3.   To get an idea of what’s possible, here are some of the things we’re looking at doing for the Get FISA Right idea.

So roll up your sleeves and get to work!  As my post on the Get FISA Right blog says, “Vote early, promote often!”
