I See You Jockin’ Jay-Z

What happened these last eight years? Was I too young, and the memory too distant, or did Jake Tapper used to be considered a thoughtful young journalist on the come-up in, like 2000 when he wrote for Salon? How is this deliberately-contextless piece of manufactured celebrity-watching acceptable outside of E!?

The lyrics to "99 Problems" include the famous line:

"If you’re havin’ girl problems I feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one."

According to MTV News Jay recently dedicated the song to McCain and a "homegirl," whom he described as "the one who says ‘You betcha.’ "

Is this just cynical? Or has Tapper actually descended to Halperin-level depths of substancelessness? Either way, we’re going to see him on that SummerJam screen.
