Dear Representative:I am writing to urge you to call on the administration to impose tougher sanctions against Iran, which continues its illicit pursuit of nuclear weapons in defiance of the international community.Time is running out to stop Iran—the leading state sponsor of terrorism—from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability.A nuclear-armed Iran would pose a grave threat to the United States and international community. An Iran with nuclear weapons would embolden the regime to carry out its radical foreign-policy agenda and spur a nuclear arms race in the region. That is why it is so important to impose tough economic and political sanctions on Iran now.Sanctions are having an impact on Iran. Foreign energy companies have backed away from major investments in Iran because of the risk of sanctions and banks have stopped issuing letters of credit to companies seeking to do business with Iran. However, more must be done as Iran continues to perfect its uranium enrichment capabilities and could have a nuclear weapons capability as soon as the end of next year. With Iran continuing to defy the international community’s demands to suspend its uranium enrichment, the United States should take increased measures against the Islamic Republic. For example, America could launch an international campaign to end the sale of refined petroleum products to Iran, which imports 40 percent of its gasoline and diesel fuel. America also could sanction Iran’s Central Bank, international banks and energy companies investing in the country and entities doing business with the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.Thank for your efforts to highlight the urgency of the threat posed to the United States and our allies by a nuclear-armed Iran.IT HAS NEVER BEEN PROVEN THAT IRAN IS "ILLICITLY PURSUING NUCLEAR WEAPONS"IRAN HAS A RIGHT UNDER THE NIE TO ENRICH URANIUM FOR PEACEFUL PURPOSES
