Somehow I only found out about this today — thanks to a moment of idleness while awaiting an edit — but did you know that some of the members of Fall Out Boy, including Ashlee Simpson’s husband Pete Wentz, were in Racetraitor? (Wentz is here described as a "fill-in bass player," and the results of a halfassed Google search corroborate that description.) For those who may not be aware, Racetraitor were a pretty insufferable hardcore band, the sort that would occasionally feature bongo drumming, since bongo drumming is a white person’s idea of what "indigenous" peoples do. As it happens I saw them in Montclair, NJ around 1999 with Sicky Nixx‘s old band Stormshadow. They sucked. I’ve also never heard Fall Out Boy.

Also, I might as well take this opportunity to say that it’s almost the one day of the year I act like a Jew in the Der Stuermer sense of the term: Yom Kippur. I’ll be fasting and doing other such Jewwy activities, all of which preclude me from blogging. Luckily, however, I’ve got some friends who’ll fill in: Flophouser and University of Maryland art lecturer Kriston Capps; RockRichard, a veteran of both Afghanistan and Florida hardcore; award-winning journalist Colin Asher; and the mysterious vixen behind Anonymous Secs. I’ll see you back when I’m relatively cleansed, soul-wise.
