McCain tried to fob himself off in the debate as Mr. Fiscal Reponsibility, Warrior Against Pork:

You know, we spent $3 million to study the DNA of bears in Montana. I don’t know if that was a criminal issue or a paternal issue, but the fact is that it was $3 million of our taxpayers’ money. And it has got to be brought under control.

Then he ought to be grumbling at his running mate:

It turns out, the state of Alaska under Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain’s running mate, sought millions in federal funds to study the genetics of harbor seals, and gather data on  halibut fisheries and sea crabs.

Does this mean the fusty old coot will answer the call to throw her under the bus?
