We’ve all been waiting for the next Republican corruption tipping point. Waiting and waiting and waiting.

Jack Abramoff was recently sentenced on his remaining charges, and he’s reportedly been cooperating with the DOJ’s public corruption unit for a while now. Apparently, he’s been cooperating a lot:

…prosecutors credited Abramoff for spending more than 3,000 hours working with more than 100 law-enforcement officials in their ongoing investigation.

Before that, we heard about former Doolittle staffer and Abramoff lobbying pal, Kevin Ring, falling into the hot water after the Coughlin plea.

This week, Ring was indicted by a federal grand jury in a 10-count indictment — and the juicy glimpses of some of the spilled corruption beans are oozing into the public sunlight. Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) is identified as Representative No. 5, by key details that apply to his fact pattern, and Rep. Ernest Istook (R-OK) is similarly identified in the indictment as Representative No. 4.

The cash and carry earmarks for box seat bonanza that Abramoff and Ring were running is shockingly crass, even by their usual gutter pay to play standards.

But it is the references to Doolittle’s wife and the squirrelly job for which Abramoff paid her that raised my eyebrows. And made me think back to that FBI raid on the Doolittle home back in April.

We’ve been trying to help piece together the probable membership of the Abramoff Twelve and the Wives Club for a while now. So, let’s see who we’ve previously identified as potentially in the DOJ crosshairs on this:

Also of interest: Steven Griles, former number two at the Dept. of the Interior; Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT); Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) and his wife, Julie; two of DeLay’s former top deputies, Edwin A. Buckham and Tony C. Rudy; and DeLay’s wife, Christine. Also in the crosshairs are Tony Rudy’s wife Lisa and Rep. Dana Rohrbacher (R-CA).

When you add in the corruption bonanza recently broken open at the Department of the Interior — complete with sex, cocaine and bribery! — and a wholesale abdication of ethics, and the fact that Jackie Boy Abramoff and his pal, Steven Griles, have been cooperating? Plus, Ralph Reed, John Cornyn, Karl Rove, Grover Norquist and a whole host of other smarm merchants are in the Follow The Money mix as well.  (Marcy has more on the Dept. of the Interior mess.)

Seems like it would be irresponsible not to speculate who the DOJ might be squeezing Ring to finger.
