LaBarbera: No special legislation needed in TN church shooting case

Allie Martin – OneNewsNow – 7/29/2008 4:00:00 AM

The president of Americans for Truth says homosexual activists will use the recent church shooting in Knoxville, Tennessee, to advance their agenda and call for “hate crimes” legislation.

According to police reports, Jim Adkisson walked into the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville on Sunday and opened fire — killing two and wounding five others. Authorities believe Adkisson selected the congregation because of its liberal social stance, including support for homosexual causes.

Shortly after the shootings took place, pro-homosexual groups such as the Human Rights Campaign were offering assistance to the church. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality thinks groups with agendas similar to HRC’s will use the tragedy to continue their push for federal hate crimes legislation.

“The fact is, this case will get the attention it deserves — and I believe this man could be given the death penalty, without any extra help from the feds and any sort of hate crimes prosecution,” he explains. “If he’s guilty of murder, and [if] the facts are true, he should get the death penalty.”

The pro-family advocate adds that the homosexual movement gets favorable treatment within the media, and LaBarbera says with that type of coverage there is no need for special legislation to “give more attention and better treatment to this case.” He adds that with the media spotlight on the incident, “it proves our case” that hate crimes laws are not necessary.

During a candlelight vigil on Monday night, a representative from the Human Rights Campaign — the largest pro-homosexual lobby group in America — was on hand. LaBarbera expects homosexual activists to try and link Adkisson to the pro-family movement.

And we have a comment from anonymous:

“We have absolutely NO need for the thought police aka hate crimes legislation in this country. A person should only be tried for the crimes they commit and not the reason they committed it. If a person is murdered it makes no difference if it was out of hate or not, the person is still dead and that is what needs to be brought before the court. HRC is at it again with their deceptive propaganda. I seriously doubt that this scum bag was their to seek out homosexuals and target them. He is a nut case period. Once again I say NO thought police allowed in this country. We don’t need another Iran or communist China or any other inferior form of government infiltrating our superior form of government. If we would go back to the constitution that the libs constantly try and pervert we would be a country that would be looked up to by all others.”

1. Peter LaBarbera is one of those elitists who think that hate crime laws should only protect “Christians” and no one else.

2. See how the wingnuts are trying to seperate themselves from Jim Adkisson.  It’s not working.  Also, it’s the authorities who are linking Adkisson to the pro-fascist movement, not the HRC.  The HRC didn’t find any books by conservative pundits in the house.  A fellow Blender typed down some quotes from wingnuts about shooting people and wiping them off the earth.  Try denying that one.

3.  Now from the anonymous bigot:

“A person should only be tried for the crimes they commit and not the reason they committed it.”

Or both.  It’s not like some jackass would shoot people in a liberal church for no reason.  There was a motive behind it.  What happens if someone shot somebody in your church?  If you survived, are you going to shout out “hate crime”?

“Once again I say NO thought police allowed in this country. We don’t need another Iran or communist China or any other inferior form of government infiltrating our superior form of government.”

The only “thought police” this bigot wants is the “Christian” version of Saudi Arabia’s vice police.  Also, this bigot sounds like a smug nationalistic Nazi.  Governments are different from each other, not this superior/inferior complex that the supremacists are trying to imply.

I do agree that we should not be another Iran.  My advice is to take God/Allah out of government.
