AUSTIN, Tx. — I worked at Talking Points Memo for six months and never once met David Kurtz, TPM’s managing editor, who lives in Missouri. I’m here at FDL and never met Pach, never met David Neiwert, never met Rayne who also works at the Center for Independent Media which employs me, never met everyone in the comment community. I email several times weekly with several of the VetVoice guys and never met them either.
On the one hand, it’s great and gratifying to be able to shake the hands of people you only know through the computer. But I realized last night in between rounds that that’s the least of it. The greater part is that you know that people you’ve never so much as shared a meal with would immediately come to your defense if attacked and are working together to move us out of these dark times. There’s a reason this place feels so familiar to anyone who’s come out of hardcore.
