Pastor Says Gay Marriage Infringes on Church Rights

An article released May 18th written by Mary Anne Ostrom in the Mercury News contains a quote made by Pastor Mike McClure of Calvary Chapel San Jose. I wanted to post it to show the religious bias in the political battleground for gay marriage.

The article is concerning how members of the faith-based community regard gay marriage. Pastor McClure said,

The state is infringing on the church’s rights to follow what the Bible says. I’m not condemning homosexuals.

Marriage equality does not in anyway prevent the church from practicing its beliefs. I feel this statement shows a powerful message from a religious leader that is shared by many in their community, and that message is that everyone must not only tolerate their religion, but also follow it. It is a scary realization that this country  allows religious beliefs to take precedent over civil rights and equality.
