Eureka Springs mayor blasts Kern
Bible beating homophobic Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern:
You know gays are infiltrating city councils. Did you know, Eureka Springs, anybody been there to the Passion Play? Have you heard that the city council of Eureka Springs is now controlled by gays. Okay. There are some others, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tacoma, Maryland, Kensington, Maryland, in Vermont, Oregon, West Palm Beach, Florida and a lot of other places in Florida.
That statement, along with the rest of her homo-hate was blasted last week by the president of the Pittsburgh City Council, Douglas Shields, since his city was one of those cited as being overrun with elected gays.
Now mayor Mayor Dani Joy of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, an oasis of tolerance in a very Red state, put in her two cents on Kern in a rebuke at the end of Monday’s city council meeting.
The mayor’s statement, released earlier on Geekfest, an electronic community bulletin board, describes Eureka Springs as “welcoming to all visitors and residents without regard to their race, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability or national origin. It is our hope that all people would aspire to this ideal.”
She also added that in her opinion it was appalling that Kern used Eureka Springs and its citizens to further a private agenda. Elected officials, she said, are put into office for other reasons, and added that she feels that Kern owes the city an apology.
