Transgender Day of Remembrance: Vigils
As the TDoR moves closer it's important to know where we can go to remember those who's lives were taken from them in acts of violence simply because they lived their lives in their own truths and projected the image of who they were on the inside, on the outside.
Dates, times, and locations after the jump. Please add any others that you blenders know of in the comments and be sure to take some time to attend local events and if there aren't any try to organize one.
[Update: HRC has, at the request of the community, cancelled it's DC event and instead urged it's members and staff to attend the event at the Whitman Walker Clinic, in an effort to “come to the community.” Press Release below the fold.]

Human Rights Campaign Joins in Support of National Transgender Day of Remembrance
In Lieu of Holding its Own Event, HRC Urges Community to Attend Whitman-Walker Event
WASHINGTON – Events marking the 9th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance tomorrow, November 20, designed to honor the memories of our transgender sisters and brothers lost to hate violence, will be taking place throughout the country and locally in Washington, D.C. In lieu of holding its own event, the Human Rights Campaign is asking its staff, volunteers, and other members of the community to be actively involved in Transgender Day of Remembrance activities throughout the country. In Washington, D.C., HRC will participate in an event at the Whitman-Walker Clinic, 1407 S Street NW.
HRC will not be holding an event at its Rhode Island Ave. headquarters, as previously reported.
In honor of the day, the Human Rights Campaign released two special video messages from transgender ministers Drew Phoenix, pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Baltimore, MD and Presbyterian minister Rev. Erin Swenson of Atlanta, GA.
The video messages produced by HRC are available for viewing on our blog, HRC Back Story: http://www.hrcbackstory.org/2007/11/special-message.html

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
The new Trans-alliance at UVic has come together to
organise our very first TDOR. We are trans, gay, lesbian, and
straight. The events will consist of a half an hour ceremony of
commemoration including readings and observance of this years
casualties, with an affirmation of the living, complete with candles
and armbands. This happens from 1:30 to 2:00 in front of the Student
Union Building. Then at 2:00 we retire to the small Michelle Pujol
room for a presentation of film clips from “She's a boy I know”and
commentary by its creator, the award winning Gwen Haworth. At 3:00 we
will panel, do Q & A, and be generally informative and fascinating
until we're done.
This is an important event in Victoria's queer calendar. Attend to be
trans and to be an ally. Every one of us counts. Every one of us
deserves to be there. If not you, than whom? If not now, than when?
Audre Lourde said,”Your silence will not protect you.” Alliance and
public support will.
Rumours are that there will be treats.

Manchester's second Annual Transgender Day Of Remembrance Vigil takes
place on Sunday November 18th 2007. This is to honour the memory of
all those transpeople killed by violence every year and to affirm our
resolve to report transphobic crime. We will assemble in Sackville
Park off Canal Street at 3.45pm for the One Minute's Silence and
reading of the names of the deceased at 4pm by the Beacon of Hope
there. This will take place by candle-light and it would be helpful if
you could bring a candle/holder but we will have spares. The event
takes approximately one hour and Taurus Bar have kindly agreed to
accommodate us for refreshments afterwards. Taurus is fully
accessible, as is the park, but we may have to use a private function
room down one flight of stairs if they are very busy. All are welcome;
please dress soberly and be aware that the media will be present
including press photographers.
