Can we be adult about this?

I recently attended a concert of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra of William Bolcom's 7th Symphony. It is a dissonant work, and properly so, because it sonically depicts the conflict and confrontation of which the 9/11 attacks are the most prominent example. The piece was premiered in 2002 in New York City. Before the concert, in a standard pre-concert talk, Bolcom talked to the host and audience about 9/11, its aftermath, and how that influenced his writing. He said that even now, 6 years later, our national discussion of the attacks has not matured. The discussion is still very juvenile.

The question for today: What would a mature discussion look like?
