Talk to your kids about sex
Below is a funny parody of the government’s Talk to Your Kids About Sex video, where they implore you to tell the kids all about the virtues of abstinence. Abstinence? So the talk about sex is a talk about not having sex?
We’ve blogged before (and maybe Pam has the links… update, maybe?) about the fact that abstinence-only sex-ed, “virginity pledges”, and Jesus rings do nothing to help teens who have real questions about sex and sexuality. In fact, the kids given the no-sex-ed have higher rates of STDs and pregnancies and abortions. Teenagers are insane; their bodies are mutating and their heads are full of hormones. They’re functionally adult but legally children. Every bit of programming in their DNA is screaming “Be fruitful and multiply!” We owe it to them to give them the unvarnished truth about sex and sexuality. (The way I figure it, if you told them the truth in glaring detail, you’d probably discourage some of the sex.)
Anyhow, in answer to one of the video kid’s questions: Well, it’s not an old-fashioned steam-engine train on the banks of the Cuyahoga…
