The Wisdom of Rahm Emanuel Continues
Rahm Emanuel, the man who thought the war was a loser issue in 2006, who recruited 10 of the 20 Democratic House members who vote with Bush most frequently, the man in charge of the highly successful “House messaging” (see YouTube above), is now evangelizing that dealing with immigration is a dog for Democrats:
Frank Sharry, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, an influential advocacy group, blasted Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., for suggesting that immigration could be a losing issue for Democrats.
Sharry was responding to an article Tuesday in the Washington Post where Emanuel, who chairs the House Democratic Caucus, said that the immigration issue is a big problem because it “captures all the American people’s anger and frustration not only with immigration, but with the economy.”
Emanuel also said immigration has “emerged as the third rail of American politics” and that “anyone who doesn’t realize that isn’t with the American people.”
Sharry said in a press release that he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he read the article.
“Rep. Emanuel threw immigrants under the bus because desperate House Republicans are planning to run nasty ads about Democrats and immigration,” Sharry said.
Sharry also compared Emanuel to Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., who is leading an effort to offer a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who complete high school.
I know we’ve been there before, but I guess we have to go there again. Last week Rahm was at a bootcamps for Democratic House candidates and preached the value of running from the immigration issue. And lo and behold, Eric Massa emerges from said bootcamp and releases a statement going against the entirely rational and reasonable Spitzer policy on drivers’ licenses for immigrants.
Once again, from all of us to all of you, thanks Rahm — for leading the party into a ditch.
