Texas: police chief accused of raping staff is fired
You might recall the case of Jose Luis Vela — the Alton, TX police chief was accused of performing oral sex on a male employee after the man passed out drunk at a party at Vela’s home.
Another male employee said Vela violated him with an object after that staffer was unconscious at a different party. Vela was suspended after being arrested on two counts of sexual assault. It later came to light that three more current or former staff members of the police department accused Vela of sexual harassment.
When did the man have time to do his flipping job? He has been fired (for other reasons).
City Manager Jorge Arcaute fired Vela Friday for poor record keeping and possible theft of confiscated items. He said allegations surfaced accusing Vela of stealing alcohol confiscated by his department.
Vela said he never took confiscated beer, nor was he involved in logging items. He is out on bail and plans to plead not guilty to the charges.
