Oh my…
He said it, I didn’t — from Mike Rogers over at BlogActive:
Why is it that every time a right wing megachurch cancels a memorial service for a gay Navy veteran, the pastor looks like a flaming queen?
Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against flaming queens (I’ve been called one myself)…It’s just an observation.
This is what Pastor Simons said:
“We did decline to host the service – not based on hatred, not based on discrimination, but based on principle. Had we known it on the day they first spoke about it – yes, we would have declined then. It’s not that we didn’t love the family. Even though we could not condone that lifestyle, we went above and beyond for the family through many acts of love and kindness.”
— Rev. Gary Simons, minister at High Point Church in Arlington, justifying the church’s decision.
UPDATE: I forgot to reference this earlier post on a Yahoo News/60 Minutes feature called “Gay or Straight? Take The Tests” on various types of research on sexual orientation, including the much-heralded “gaydar.” One portion of the feature is called “Can You Tell? (by the way someone moves or speaks)?,” which has an experiment where women and men judge whether the person shown on a monitor is gay/straight depending on how their legs are crossed.
It was a pretty long thread with comments about whether Blenders can tell one way or another. It’s worth revisiting.
