Tennessee elects its first out gay elected official

News to celebrate in a Red state. Keith Durbin won a seat on the Nashville City Council representing District 18. Denis Dison of The Victory Fund:

Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, which endorsed Durbin, said: “Tennessee took a step toward equality last night.  Keith’s election shows that gays and lesbians are willing and anxious to be part of the political debate everywhere in America.”

Denis notes that only six states remain with no openly LGBT elected officials: Alaska, South Dakota, North Dakota, South Carolina, Louisiana, and West Virginia. And you best believe there are some closet doors waiting to be kicked open in those states.
