O'Reilly's hot air spin zone machine
The No-Spin Zone has been spinning like a top…
Bill O’Reilly and Rod Wheeler Apologize for Inaccuracies in Their Report on Violent Lesbian Gangs. Oops. Wheeler and Billo had to admit the inaccuracies and exaggerations in the show’s unhinged report claiming a pink-pistol-toting lesbian gang “epidemic.” Here’s one of the outlandish exchanges:
O’Reilly asked, “Now, when they recruit the kids, are they indoctrinating them into homosexuality?”
“Yes,” Wheeler answered. “As a matter of fact, some of the kids have actually reported that they were forced into, you know, performing sex acts and doing sex acts with some of these people.”
“During the O’Reilly Factor segment on June 21st, while engaged in a discussion on Lesbian gangs, I inadvertently stated that gang members carry pistols that are painted pink and call themselves the “Pink Pistol Packing Group.” I was not referring to the gay rights group “Pink Pistols” who advocates for the lawful rights of gays to carry weapons for protection. Further, I mentioned that there are “over 150 of these gangs” in the greater Washington DC area. What I actually meant is that there are over 150 gangs in the Washington DC area, some of which are in fact lesbian gangs. Lastly, I mentioned in the segment that there is this “national epidemic” of lesbian gangs. A better choice of words would have been to say that there is a growing concern nationally, and especially in major urban areas, of increased gang activity, which includes some lesbian gang activity. I apologize for any misunderstanding this may have caused.”
We’re just getting started. Below the fold you’ll see why this Faux News hypocrite is now having to deal with the Secret Service.O’Reilly has been spending a lot of airtime blasting Daily Kos, and by extension, Yearly Kos by making hay of JetBlue sponsoring the event. The Clinton campaign communications director Howard Wolfson put out a statement last week blasting O’Reilly’s right wing bullying and hypocrisy, noting that Clinton hasn’t been the darling of the DKos community, but that she supports the netroots. He slam dunks O’Reilly on the kind of hate mongering he runs nightly.
“Blogs are the 21st Century version of the public square. Sen. Clinton does not agree with everything said on Daily Kos, but isolating a few comments as a way to smear a blog frequented by hundreds of thousands of people a day is wrong. Certainly you would understand this when you look at some of the extreme views guests on your show have advocated over the years. Here are just a few examples:
“You’ve hosted Michael Savage, who has called MLK Jr. Day a “racket” designed to steal ‘white males’ birthright.’
“You’ve hosted David Horowitz, who has called Democrats ‘apologists for terrorists.’
“You’ve hosted, Ann Coulter who said of the 9/11 widows: ‘I have never seen people enjoying their husbands? death so much.’
“It wouldn’t be reasonable to attribute these views to you and it’s not reasonable for you to attribute every comment on Daily Kos to everyone who attends the YearlyKos convention. Sen. Clinton is looking forward to attending YearlyKos.”
O’Reilly, clearly looking to juicing up this story, invited Wolfson onto the Factor who proceeded to school Billo.
OREILLY: Now for the top story tonight, another view of this. Joining us from Washington, Howard Wolfson, a top advisor to Senator Clinton. On Mrs. Clinton’s website stands this statement. Tell Bill O’Reilly stop smearing grassroots progressives. That after our reporting on JetBlue sponsoring the Kos convention.
So Mr. Wolfson, you want to explain that?
HOWARD WOLFSON, CLINTON COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR: Sure. And I hope that all of your viewers will go to our website, hillaryclinton.com and sign the petition.
Bill, I think it’s unfortunate that in the last week or so, you have cherry picked some comments on the DailyKos site that you or I or others might find objectionable and have decided to smear an entire community, hundreds of thousands of people who go to the site every day, who talk to one another, who participate vigorously in our democracy, and are urging Democratic presidential candidates to stay away from their yearly conference.
And unfortunately, with all due respect for you, the days where you can dictate where Senator Clinton and other Democrats go, who we talk to, are over.
The latest O’Reilly nonsense is just out of control. See Americablog for the dustup that now has garnered Secret Service attention. Some moron on O’Reilly’s web forum made a threat against Hillary Clinton and it’s being investigated (A’blog has screenshots). The bully has been criticizing DKos for fomenting hate, and that comments there should be controlled/moderated (O’Reilly: Look, I have my own web site. We don’t… open forum is bull. Alright? You can regulate what’s on your web site.). Unfortunately his ardent fans are the ones fomenting violence, and he’s not controlling it.

If Hillary wins, I will be respectful of our leader. If you could read my thoughts, I would be on the SS [Secret Service] watch list.
Another said “If [Hillary] wins… my guns are loaded.”
Since O’Reilly’s the one claiming that Daily Kos should be moderating every single comment on the community because an open forum is “bull,” why does his site policy say this?
BillOReilly.com will not be held liable for any user activity on the message boards. We do not actively monitor user-submitted content.
In truth, there’s nothing wrong with that policy; PHB has the same policy the posts and the corresponding comment threads are not monitored. However, threats and personal attacks are a violation of community standards, so when readers have brought them to my attention (or Russ and ee) they are deleted. We’ve also had to ban trolls who persist — some multiple times. In the end, commenters are solely responsible for what they post.
So, O’Reilly cannot have it both ways — either he needs to get off the back of progressive sites like Daily Kos for having unmoderated comments as his forum’s current policy states, or he needs to toss out that policy and monitor his Hillary-hating trolls that are now being investigated by the Secret Service.
