Fear-inspired bigots threaten success of GLBT organization float

It is the 1st time the GLBT community is allowed to take part in the Blossomtime Parade in St. Joseph & Benton Harbor, Michigan.

  Something to celebrate I think.

Despite the fact that the float itself is a generic expression of patriotism featuring an American flag, anti-GLBT community members have flooded the newspaper with letters that can only be described as hateful. One such letter urges the community to turn their backs on the OAC float:

“Let the gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders keep their choices to themselves and not flaunt them at a family oriented event,” said James W.Weatherly of Stevensville.

Other, less “kind,” community members have suggested throwing eggs or rocks at the float.  Mr. Weatherly and others who think like him don’t know that we have families, too – let’s show him, shall we.

Even with all the Bull S**t, The Out & Affirmation Center, is still going to enter the float into the parade.

  Sat., May 5 – 8am to Noon: Hang-out pre-Parade & protect the float.

Sat., May 5 – Noon: Parade begins.

I hope all goes well for them, and a good time can be had by all.
