I don’t think Little Miss Sunshine will win, but how can you not love the film’s skewering of the child beauty pageant industry and how it tarts up little girls? Here’s the preview, which really doesn’t do the film justice at all (L).  Catch the infamous dance scene at the pageant before YouTube yanks it (on the right).

 

Such a witty, off-kilter film. I can’t believe that something so Alt was nominated for Best Picture, though it was deserving. Alan Arkin is up for Best Supporting Actor for his amazing turn as the devoted and foul-mouthed, heroin-snorting grandpa (see a touching scene here), and cute-as-a-button Abigail Breslin is up for Best Supporting Actress. Steve Carell wasn’t nominated, but he was a hoot as the suicidal gay uncle.

Also, here’s the video for “I Need To Wake Up” by Melissa Etheridge — from Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth — which is up for Best Song.
