Texas lawmaker circulates memo linking evolution to Jewish texts

Here’s an unbelievable Flat Earth Society story. I thought that I’d seen it all in terms of novel ways fundies try all  to prevent evolution from being taught in the classroom, but this takes the cake.

The man second in power in the Texas legislature, Warren Chisum (R-No surprise), has been forced to apologize for circulating an unhinged memo decrying the teaching of evolution to the 149 other state representatives. It wasn’t just any anti-evolution memo — this screed from his close friend Ben Bridges, claims that Jewish texts establish evolution is a religion.

The one-page memorandum, marked “From: Representative Ben Bridges,” declared that “tax-supported evolution science” was based on religion and therefore unlawful under the United States Constitution.

It continued, “Indisputable evidence – long hidden but now available to everyone – demonstrates conclusively that so-called secular evolution science is the Big Bang 15-billion-year alternate `creation scenario’ of the Pharisee Religion.”

“This scenario,” the memorandum stated, “is derived concept-for-concept from Rabbinic writings on the mystic `holy book’ kabbala dating back at least two millennia.”

The memorandum said that inquiries could be directed to the Fair Education Foundation, a group in Georgia, and gave its Web address, fixedearth.com. The site features items belittling the Holocaust and portraying Earth as stationary as depicted in the Bible, with Jewish thinkers like “Kabbalist physicist Albert Einstein” responsible for contrary scientific theories.

That Anti-Defamation League got wind of this and, let’s just say, it didn’t go over well with them.  Chisum had to “apologize” —  “I had no intention to offend anyone. I never took it very seriously.”  Right. Busted.

As crazy is that memo is, take a look at what is on the FixedEarth.com web site,  home of The Fair Education Foundation, the authority on these “facts”:

The Earth is not rotating…nor is it going around the sun.

The universe is not one ten trillionth the size we are told.

Today’s cosmology fulfills an anti-Bible religious plan disguised as “science”.

The whole scheme from Copernicanism to Big Bangism is a factless lie.

Those lies have planted the Truth-killing virus of evolutionism

in every aspect of man’s “knowledge” about the Universe, the

Earth, and Himself.

Take your time.

Check it all out.
