Diamond Person's Killer Pleads Guilty
Specifically, Preston Logan — who faces a possible maximum sentence of 45 years in prison — plead guilty on Feb. 8 to second-degree murder while armed in connection with the beating and suffocation slaying of Diamond Person:
According to a statement released by the United States Attorney’s office, Logan confessed to police that he killed Person on Jan. 3 after the two had smoked crack cocaine at the apartment and got into an argument over whose fault it was that the two had a relapse from a drug treatment program they attended together.
In his videotaped confession, Logan described how he struck Person in the head several times with a hammer and attempted to strangle her with a necktie and a strap, but she continued to breathe. He then tied a trash bag around Person’s neck “and watched until [Person] stopped breathing,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said in its statement.
