How would stateside 'Christians' react to this?

In Australia, Baptist churches around the country are featuring a “Jesus Loves Osama” sign. Prime Minister John Howard is hopping mad, as well as some religious leaders there — but they have admitted that the sentiment expressed on the sign is true, according to Christian beliefs.

One sign outside the Central Baptist Church in downtown Sydney also had a smaller footnote saying “Jesus said: `Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”‘

…A photograph of the sign was published in The Daily Telegraph newspaper on Thursday, prompting debate about whether it was a suitable message.

Prime Minister John Howard said something else would have been better.

“I understand the Christian motivation of the Baptist church,” Howard told reporters. “But I hope they will understand that a lot of Australians, including many Australian Christians, will think that the prayer priority of the church on this occasion could have been elsewhere.”

margie b-well, who sent this item in, points to the Rapture Ready “End Times Chat” message board for an interesting comment on this sign from someone named “Myth Buster”:

Of course He does, that’s why He died for him. Jesus doesn’t like to have to kill people, but He’s certainly prepared to if they spurn His grace.
