More het parenting beyond the pale
Add these examples of stellar, ethical parenting to the pile — yet homos still cannot adopt or foster in many states simply because they are gay.
* Adopted boy testifies about being kept in a hot cage by parents. In Norwalk, Ohio, Michael and Sharen Gravelle are on trial facing one to five years in prison for this insane, sick, horror. They adopted 11 childre (some with special needs) and subjected them to, among other things, weeks of captivity in a cage
The boy on the stand Wednesday morning also described other forms of punishment that the Gravelles are accused of using on him and other children, including dunking their heads in a toilet, striking them with 2-by-4 lumber and smacking across the face.
He testified that the children had mattresses and pillows for a while, but by the time they were removed from the home they had not had bedding for some time.
Once, he said, the couple forced him to spend six weeks in his cage copying the Bible’s Book of Deuteronomy, a collection of sermons written by Moses. Other witnesses have testified that Michael Gravelle often referred to himself as Moses.
“It’s the longest chapter in the Bible so they gave that one to me,” the boy testified, adding that he was allowed to leave the cage only to eat.

* Prosecutors Say Mom, Son Faked Retardation. How’s this for setting an example for your kid? A woman in Washington state groomed her son to be a flim-flam artist.
For nearly 20 years – ever since Pete Costello was 8 – his mother has collected disability benefits on his behalf. In meetings with Social Security officials and psychologists, he appeared mentally retarded and unable to communicate. His mother insisted he couldn’t read or write, shower, take care of himself or drive a car.
But now prosecutors say it was all a huge fraud, and they have video of Costello contesting a traffic ticket to prove it. “He’s like any other person trying to get out of a traffic ticket,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Norman Barbosa said Tuesday.
Pete and Rosie Marie Costello were indicted in September on charges of conspiracy to defraud the government and Social Security fraud, and the case was unsealed Tuesday. The Vancouver pair pleaded not guilty in federal court in Tacoma on Tuesday after the case was unsealed. The traffic ticket was deferred.
…Court documents indicate prosecutors believe his mother pulled the same trick with a daughter, whom officials have been unable to locate. All told, she raked in $222,000 on their behalf, according to the documents.
UPDATE: But wait, there’s more…
* Mother charged with abandoning baby in Lorain garage. A 23-year-old Ohio woman, Heather Heck, didn’t have time for her two-month-old baby — she was out partying for the weekend with her boyfriend.
The baby was found Sunday in a car inside a detached two-vehicle garage shared by Heck and a neighbor, Robert Arroyo, 24. He called police and said he had found the naked baby boy in a clothes basket.
The baby was wrapped in a soiled bed sheet in the back seat of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer belonging to Heck’s boyfriend, police said. According to a police report, physicians determined that the baby appeared to have bed sores, from lying in the same position for two or three days. Before her arrest, Heck and her boyfriend said they had spent the weekend out of town.
Heck and her boyfriend, Wesley Cales, are religious. So religious, in fact, that Heather Heck feared the wrath of hellfire from the leaders of Calvary Apostolic Church if they discovered that the pair had had sex without God’s permission. As a result, Heck kept the baby a secret from everybody…including her boyfriend, the boy’s father.
How leaving a child to die or be kidnapped is preferable to telling your pastor that you had pre-marital sex is beyond me.
