Massachusetts Supreme Court justice to hear Mitt's amendment complaint
Blender Tony emailed this breaking AP item. Apparently outgoing governor Mitt Romney will receive his hearing on whether a marriage amendment can be on the 2008 ballot tomorrow.
The complaint will be heard by a single justice — Judith Cowin — who was among the court’s majority that legalized gay marriage three years ago.
The governor is upset with the Legislature for recessing a constitutional convention this month without taking a vote on the amendment. The move was widely seen as a way to kill the measure.
Mitt’s determined to bleat away about this for maximum PR value. He’s claiming that the state’s constitution doesn’t give lawmakers the ability to avoid voting on an citizens’ initiative via parliamentary maneuver.
