The Spin I’m In: How Sweet It Is

Tuesday night I got home from band rehearsal to find out that the Repulsicans had lost control of the House. I stayed up late to hear the news over and over again switching back and forth from FDL to the TV. Couldn't get enough of it.

Meanwhile at a nearby rehearsal, my friend was getting into it with his guitarist over the fact that his guitarist didn't vote. Not that he was too busy to vote, or couldn't vote, or was even "not into politics", but he was taking a very stubborn stand to not vote because "it doesn't matter".

Now, this is a "smart" guy who even donates time at a halfway house for teenage runaways. He was happy that a certain Democrat had beaten "that gross Republican" but he himself staunchly chose not to vote. His argument was that the think tanks and the lobbyists have all the power and blah blah blah, snooze, blah blah blah.

I find these kinds of people to be the biggest of bores. Usually everything in their lives is viewed in a similar, cynical way. They are above voting and try to make you feel foolish for voting and for thinking that you do make a difference.

Very thankfully, I was not raised this way. I was raised to boycott grapes and attend ERA marches before I could even vote. I've felt defeat and I've felt victory, but I've never felt that "it doesn't matter." Screw that. Now all we have to do is save the planet. Back to work.

My band is playing tonight at Safari Sam's in Hollywood at 11. Come on down and have a celebration with us!

I'd love to hear The Spin You're In in the comments section.
