Pull Up A Chair…

In the best of all possible worlds, I'd be waking up in this photo this morning, to sunrise over an empty beach just waiting to be explored, the waves crashing into the beach with their rhythmic shussh, the shells arranging themselves and then rearranging in new patterns as the surf makes them dance across the rippled surface of the sand.

Instead, I'm waking up bleary eyed, with one ear cocked toward the coffee pot awaiting the miraculous beep that tells me that it is safe to start pouring a cup of morning cheer, and sifting through my groaning e-mail box and the screaming news headlines of the day.

I don't know about you, but the beach photo above looks better and better…especially given those screaming headlines and a to do list that is a mile long and growing by the e-mail.

A bit of a retreat from all the stress of the last few weeks could be a good thing, right?  If you had your pick, where would you be at this moment?  Where is your bliss…and what are you doing there?

Yesterday, as I was sifting through yet another spate of poll numbers and campaign e-mails and bits and pieces of news snippets and blog posts, I realized that once this election cycle has run its course, the cacophony in which I have been immersed the last few weeks will ease off a bit.  It will be awfully nice to be able to take a deep breath and take stock of things…but it would be an even better idea to do that in the midst of the storm, wouldn't it?

It occurs to me that I've stopped keeping my journal because I've been so busy with the blog, but that I need that "me time" on the page to clear things out a bit.  And I've been horrible about taking a daily walk, and need to get back to that…but not because I ought to do it, but because I want to do so.  And eating better.  And…so many oughts and shoulds, but that just seems to add more to the "to do" list instead of creating some calming space, doesn't it?

So, let's talk calm.  What gets you there.  What keeps you sane.  What fills you with joy or peace or whatever it is that makes you…zen.  Pull up a chair…
