Bush tries to play the 'sacred marriage' and tax cards

“I believe marriage is a union between a man and a woman,” he said. “I believe its a sacred institution that is critical to the health of our society and the well-being of families, and it must be defended..we believe in family values, we believe values are important and we believe marriage is a fundamental institution of civilization.”
— your President, bloviating today on the campaign trail about protecting marriage — he declined to offer how it should be defended.

“I view the definition of marriage different from legal arrangements that enable people to have rights. And I strongly believe that marriage ought to be defined as between a union between a man and a woman. Now, having said that, states ought to be able to have the right to pass laws that enable people to be able to have rights like others.”
— the Chimperor, back in 2004.

He’s trying to raise the homo straw man for The Base, and quite frankly, I don’t think it’s going to work this time. Dear Leader’s own statement in 2004 that he believes that gay and lesbian couples are entitled to legal protections and benefits, even if they don’t fall under the term “marriage” has not been enough for the Don Wildmons or the Lou Sheldons.

The fundies realize that they are being played by the “gay cabal” on the Hill and in the White House and are hopping mad.

In what has to be a moment of high comedy, the Chimperor is so desperate to scare voters about the prospect of a Dem-controlled Congress, that he pulls out this tattered card — A vote for Democrats on Nov. 7 is a vote for higher taxes.

The lever you pull will determine the taxes you pay,” Bush said at a $400,000 fundraiser for Republican congressional candidate Jeff Lamberti, running against Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell in central Iowa’s 3rd District.

“Americans will cast their ballots on Nov. 7, but you’re going to feel the results every April 15,” the president argued.

Well sh*t, man, your administration’s war follies and the Republican-led Congress have put us so far in the hole that there’s no way out except to generate some revenue. Dems may have a tax and spend rep, but your clowns cut taxes and then spent our hard earned dollars like there’s no tomorrow.
