What Do You Use?
[Callie here brewing up some Joe trying to keep us going on a Sunday evening. Don’t know about you, but I think I need to go put another pot on!]
My partner and I had a recent debate on this. It’s mostly for the gay folks out there, but anyone can answer.
What do you call yourself? Gay, lesbian, homosexual, queer, bisexual, nothing (one of those don’t believe in labels people)?
In everyday conversation or when coming out, I’m inclined to call myself gay or lesbian. However, when I’m feeling particularly aggravated and political, I’ll use queer.
Personally, I don’t have a problem with queer, especially if it’s used by one of us or an ally. To me, queer connotates challenging or questioning the status quo. In that sense, anyone can be “queer.”
What are your thoughts?
