Rainbow bridge time

What horrible news to report tonight; I’m heartsick — and about to go out of town for six days. Sigh.

Tonka had an gastrointestinal obstruction, another tumor that had progressed quickly (he was diagnosed with lymphoma a short time ago). We took him to the emergency vet, and we could have put him on prednisone, which would only prolong the inevitable. We chose to let him go, and held him as the life slipped from him; he drifted off to the Rainbow Bridge.

We had about a year and a half with the Big Boy; he was a wonderful Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue. There’s nothing more gratifying than bringing an adult dog into your life. So many end up in shelters and are never adopted, yet they can provide so much love and affection if given the chance. He fit right in with Bailey and Chloe.

While we know he’s gone, Bailey the alpha mom dog doesn’t understand why Tonka didn’t come home. She was so down for weeks when Red, our last Ridgeback, passed away, so she needs some TLC.
