Family Research Council blasts Condi for recognizing partner of AIDS Coordinator
[UPDATE: The Freepi are squirming, added at the bottom.]
I was eagerly waiting for the goons at the American Family Association to go after Condi for her purposeful acknowledgment of the partner of the new Global AIDS Coordinator Mark Dybul during his swearing in ceremony (my post here). Don Wildmon’s “news” organ AgapePress reports on the Family Research Council’s apoplectic fit over it:
“I am truly honored and delighted to have the opportunity to swear in Mark Dybul as our next Global AIDS Coordinator. I am pleased to do that in the presence of Mark’s parents, Claire and Richard, his partner, Jason, and his mother-in-law, Marilyn…You have a wonderful family to support you, Mark, and I know that’s always important to us. Welcome.
— Condi, in remarks as she administered the oath of office to openly gay physician Mark Dybul, the new U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator
Oh, the eruption is so sweet. You can feel the strain as the word homosexual was tapped out on the keyboard.
The ceremony involved Secretary of State Rice and the swearing in of Mark Dybul, an open homosexual, as the nation’s new global AIDS coordinator — a position that carries the rank of ambassador. An Associated Press photo of the ceremony also shows a smiling First Lady Laura Bush and Dybul’s homosexual “partner,” Jason Claire. During her comments, Rice referred to the presence of Claire’s mother and called her Dybul’s “mother-in-law,” a term normally reserved for the heterosexuals who have been legally married.
…Peter Sprigg, vice president for policy at the Family Research Council, says the secretary’s comments were “profoundly offensive” and fly in the face of the Bush administration’s endorsement of a federal marriage protection amendment, though that backing be less than enthusiastic.
“We have to face the fact that putting a homosexual in charge of AIDS policy is a bit like putting the fox in charge of the henhouse,” says Sprigg. “But even beyond that, the deferential treatment that was given not only to him but his partner and his partner’s family by the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is very distressing.”
Sprigg says in light of the Foley scandal, “it’s inexplicable that a conservative administration would do such things.” He also notes that Rice’s comments defy an existing law on the books protecting traditional marriage. “So, for her to treat his partner like a spouse and treat the partner’s mother as a mother-in-law, which implies a marriage between the two partners, is a violation of the spirit if not the letter of the Defense of Marriage Act,” the FRC spokesman states.
I sloshed over to Freeperland for the reaction…
Well, I guess she can kiss higher office goodbye—at least, as a Republican. She seems rudderless, in many ways. The Peter Principle would seem to have struck again.
It seems obvious that the Democrat’s last minute push for this election cycle is all about homosexuals. First Foley, then the sainted Gerry Studds, and now this Dybul thing (I’m sure the MSM will spin this one into something beautiful). Homosexuals are 2% of the population, but they have great power in Democrat circles.
It does disturb me that the President’s wife, mother and Secretary of State are all pro-aborts and therefore suspect on all issues of traditional morality. I can’t imagine that a Pelosi-run Congress will do anything to change that.
Wow, how dare a homosexual work in government. And to play nice nice at a ceremony! The gall!
There is nothing in common with Christianity and a homosexual. Or an adulterer, or a fornicator, or a drunkard, or a blasphmemer, or a liar, or a cheater, or a thief, etc. etc. etc. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
This is really stupid. If we’re all lucky he’ll quickly succumb to aids himself.
What a hateful unchristian thing to say. I know in my heart that Jesus would never utter your words.
She should probably set her sites on getting that job as commissioner of football.
Wishing somebody a deadly disease is not very christian of you. Homosexuals are sinners as are adulters, those who lie, bear false witness and other sins that we are forgiven of if we repent. Homosexuality and Christianity are common. It is through christ that a homosexual will refrain from the behavior. Your attitude disgusts me. We will not save souls by being un christ like. Love the sinner, hate the sin. Do not wish AIDS upon the sinner. Please pray on this.
The Republican party Needs to choose once and for all: Either to side with the view that homosexuality is natural and normal (and a very tiny minority among the population) or That homosexuality is abohorant (even though homosexuals are to be respected) it is an abnormal behavior, and should be rejected as radical-evil, liberal. And they can choose to side with the Millions of Christians in America that believe as such..
Current news coverage is aimed at suppressing the Republican vote. Get the base to stay at home. This story runs, and what are the comments here? They are negative and indicate that Republicans are not conservative, Rice would not be a good candidate, and that Republican leadership is rudderless. The MSM puts out the bait, and some folks can’t wait to snap it up. The goal is to convince at least a few Conservatives to stay home in disgust on election day.
The question is was he the best person for the job. I’m assuming he is. Isn’t that we always say? I can’t believe I belong to a forum that doesn’t believe a homosexual should have a job. Isn’t that what you’re saying?
I am sure Fan of Fiat was joking; but, yes, you do belong to a forum where there are people who believe homosexuals shouldn’t exist, much less have a job.
We seem to have a lot of members of the Westboro Baptist Church here at FR.
You’d think the math would be easy for them, moral issues aside. If I were starting a political party for the future, I would want to appeal to those who were going to increase in number, not those who can’t procreate and die young (though they do aggressively recruit).
Maybe Condi actually acts on principals. Maybe she is not calculating how her actions affect her future electoral prospects. Despite the opposition to gay marriage and other gay agenda items, should Republicans discriminate against homosexuals? I say no. There are gay conservatives. There are plenty of talented gays who want to serve our country. If they are Republicans and support our platform, they are welcome in my party.
What do they want Condi to do? Stand at the podium screaming “GOD HATES FAGS!” ????
Exactly. The Republican party needs to decide. Just ignore those who start calling us names for standing by our principals…they usually support abortion and homosexual rights. This will begin to affect the Conservative voter if the Republicans keep doing things like this.
I sure wish she was actually running! It would seem that both the appointment, and the comment, seem pretty appropriate for the situation :~). I’m not the type to get my knickers in a knot over ‘them gays’ though. I didn’t know “mother-in-law” was a highly exclusive and reve
Is there anyone here who knows one or more gay men well who thinks that they all chose homosexuality? Not me. I’m sorry, but some men are just GAY. I tend to observe that many lesbians are such by choice, either due to emotional trauma, avoidance of (or by) men, or politics, or a blend. All that said, saying “mother-in-law” is hardly a policy statement.
No, God will handle it. Perhaps it is not very “Christian” of me but I find homosexuality as repulsive as God does from a mere human perspective. There’s something DIFFERENT about homosexuality. Male to male, female to female utterly denies what God designed us for and to whom. THAT kind of union is the ULTIMATE slap in the face to God. THAT is why He singles it out in the Bible. Now they adopt and corrupt little kids with their emotional issues. Read what God has to say about THAT. Also notice gay males WANT little baby BOYS. Lesbians want little baby GIRLS – Gee, I wonder WHY … surely even YOU can figure that out.
Adultery isn’t good either but I certainly don’t EQUATE the two sins as the SAME. At least they know who they are designed to be with. Unfortunately they lack self control and at times good judgment but at least the parts fit together.OTOH, Homosexuality is PERVERSE. It’s sadistic on its face as well as physically unhealthy. I wouldn’t be shocked if AIDS was their punishment while they are still on this earth.
No one said anything about hating homosexuals, I know this hits close to home for you, but no one said anything about hating homosexuals. Hate is not a Christian value, but we also do not want them in positions of power within a Republican administration.
