Watch Pat Buchanan play the NAMBLA card; UCC takes on Perkins

This is sickening, but wholly expected from toadies of a party going down in flames. They can’t stay away from trying to tie Democrats to deviance to shift the focus.

The latest effort comes from the mouth of Pat Buchanan, who turned up on Scarborough Country to bleat about Nancy Pelosi marching in gay pride parades alongside NAMBLA, intimating she supports these perverts — and without any proof, of course. He carefully qualifies it later in the video with “I believe,” but he accomplished his goal — floating that filth out over the airwaves. This has to be countered.

Thanks, Paul, for posting the video. An official transcript isn’t up yet, but Blender Patrick tapped away and provided this rough one for us:

Joe Scarborough: … again, Denny Hastert remembers nothing of that conversation. But the speaker did have his wits about him when it came to assailing the Democratic Party in assigning blame, telling the Chicago Tribune “the people who want to see this thing blow up are ABC news, and a lot of Democratic operatives, people funded by George Soros.”

There’s little doubt tonight, as this GOP paid sex scandal expands few voters are going to buy into the speaker’s vast left wing conspiracy when figuring out who to punish next month at the polls. If this is the best that my Republican Party can do. We’re doomed.

Here now, Michael Crowley, he’s a senior editor for the new Republic, Rachel Sklar, she’s media editor for the Huffington Post.com and MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan, Michael, let me begin with you. What you make of the events tonight. Three new pages coming forward saying Mr. Foley offered lodging for sex…(skipped that part)

Joe Scarborough: Pat Buchanan in the end, the fact that all of these Republicans have come forward saying that they warned Denny Hastert three years ago, one year ago, nine months ago, and he says he can’t remember any of it and has said.. decides to assign blame to George Soros certainly hurts his cause within the Republican party and with voters in a month, doesn’t it?

[The above video picks up here…]

Pat Buchanan: Well, there’s no doubt about it he’s been hurt but so have these leaders I mean, Mr. Blunt didn’t help himself by saying I would have handled it differently and Boener got the dime on him, none of them look like loyalists. Let me say this Joe. I mean, look, we are now hearing that this flamer Mr. Foley was going after kids as early as nineteen..I mean two thou.. I mean 1998. I mean you knew Foley, did you know he was this kind of flamer who was after pages. I mean, certainly you knew him better than Hastert did, and apparently this was not known by the folks in the Republican caucus.

Joe Scarborough: Now well well, I certainly didn’t know anything about it but, this flamer as you call him, this flamer’s Chief of Staff went to Mr. Hastert in 2003 and started warning them as early as 2003 that Mr. Foley had serious problems, and they didn’t act on it.

Pat Buchanan: Alright, but look, Hastert got a point.

Joe Scarborough: I will tell you this pat, if a chief of staff came to me, if Mark Foley’s chief of staff came to me in 1998 and told me that this was going on I’ll tell ya, I and most decent people, you would’ve gone to the speaker and if he didn’t do anything you would have held a press conference.

Pat Buchanan: Alright, that’s my point apparently ABC knew this a year ago, if the reporters knew this a year ago and they didn’t report it, they don’t care about those kids, they’re waiting to drop it in the fall election. In this case, Hastert’s got a point, if people give a hoot about the kids and they know about it and they wait for a year to dump it, do they really care about these kids? I don’t think so. Let me may make one more point. Ms. Pelosi has marched in gay pride parades with the North American Man Boy Love Association, NAMBLA. Which, who are pedophiles who are trying to get the laws repealed for sex between men and boys. If she’s been marching with pedophiles, is she credible standing up there saying I’m shocked, shocked that some Republican is after 17 year old pages?

Joe Scarborough: Rachel Sklar in the end will a blame ABC news, George Soros, Democratic Party strategy work?

Rachel Sklar: No, it definitely will not. We have to go back to the original principle which is the fact that, a predator, and I don’t think his sexuality is germane here, whether or not he’s quote unquote a flamer, I’m not too down with that language. He’s a predator, that’s the issue here. He’s a predator he was preying on kids who are working on Capitol Hill, and his party enabled him.

Joe Scarborough: Well and Rachel apparently if you look at these latest reports out. It looks as if Mark Foley, a guy I knew since 1994 and liked personally was using this page program as a sex farm. I mean, it was a farm system, where he was waiting for these people to become 18 and then set up these sexual trysts with them, right?

Rachel Sklar: Precisely, he was a predator, and his party enabled him. His party did not address it and that’s where the blame lies.

Pat Buchanan: now wait a minute Joe let me interrupt right there. I agree anybody that knew this guy was a predator didn’t turn a man and get rid of them should be out of the Congress. But they should also be out of journalism, if they knew this predator was running all over the place, they say we don’t care about that lets let’s wait till October and dump it on the Republicans.

Joe Scarborough: Rachel is that fair?

Rachel Sklar: I don’t think that’s a fair characterization. From my understanding is that there there was information, kind of out there and people needed to put it together.

Pat Buchanan: we’ll that’s exactly what the Republicans are saying we needed to put together, for heaven sakes. If ABC who knew it and they say we need to put it together, if they are innocent, why aren’t Republicans who say we didn’t put together either?

Rachel Sklar: one party had information the other part had to find the information. One party sat on at the other party ferreted it out.

(Joe to Michael Crowley segment skipped)

Joe Scarborough: Pat Buchanan, if I’m on the campaign stump. I would much rather defend the Iraq war and defend the fact that the speaker is being seen as somebody who’s covering up for a pedophile and look at this Herald Ford quote. He was being attacked, somebody said that he hung out with Playboy bunnies and Harold Ford said this “I’m not going to take a lecture on morality from a party that took hush money from a child predator.” Pat Buchanan that his gold. That’s a quote that will work in Tennessee, and will work around the country.

Pat Buchanan: yeah will, let me tell you something. Two national figures, Rudy Giuliani, Hillary Rodham Clinton, marched in gay pride parades in New York, in which I believe that NAMBLA floats were moved right along.. and these are child predators who are arguing for getting rid of laws between men and boys they’re marching with that, that will go into…

Joe Scarborough: Alright, but Pat that will not have resonance this fall in the elections.

Pat Buchanan: Not this fall, 2008 it’s going to be very very big because of this Joe.

Joe Scarborough: and Rachel Sklar, final prediction, where do we go from here in this media scandal?

Rachel Sklar: well, I think we just sit back and watch it unfold. You know, you try and find as much information out as possible and figure out who knew what when and what their motives were in presenting the information or in del
iberately holding it back.

Michael Crowley: Joe and no serious elected official in America supports NAMBLA…I mean, maybe they want up in the same place..

Pat Buchanan: but if they march with them.. Look if I march with the Klan. I have to answer whether..

Michael Crowley: Not intentionally. There’s no way. Pat, come on.

Pat Buchanan: if they march with NAMBLA they’re going to have to answer it. Now they are.

Joe Scarborough: Alright well they may have to answer that in 2008, but I’ll tell you in 2006 a month from now the Republican Party is going to have to answer for the events of the past three years, where Mr. Foley’s former chief of staff, said he told the speaker’s office that Mark Foley was preying on young children as early as 1998. Thank you, Michael Crowley Pat Buchanan

Has anyone from Pelosi’s office released a statement about this?

The United Church of Christ’s Rev. John H. Thomas steps up to counter Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins

It’s welcome to see allies fighting the Am Taliban:

“Perkins recent remarks are destructive to gay and lesbian persons and their families and distract the nation’s attention from the real issue at hand, which is protecting young people from sexual predators,” said the Rev. John H. Thomas, the UCC’s general minister and president.

On October 2, Perkins issued a statement claiming “the real issue” in the Foley scandal was a “link between homosexuality and child sexual abuse.” On Oct. 3, Perkins made similar accusations on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” where he likened homosexuals with “sexual deviants.”

Thomas said the former congressman’s sexual orientation should not be part of the public debate. The American Psychological Association, in addition to numerous other reputable medical and scientific groups, has found that “gay men are no more likely than heterosexual men to perpetrate child sexual abuse.”

“To suggest that gay and lesbian persons should be barred from public service, as Perkins has implied, is akin to suggesting that white, straight males should be kept out of politics because of Bill Clinton’s sexual misdeeds,” Thomas said. “To attach this debate to sexual orientation is not only ludicrous, it’s dangerous. Many gay and lesbian persons serve honorably in public office.”

…Thomas said the church’s support of the gay and lesbian community is in keeping with its concern for the safety and well- being of young people.
