The Spin I’m In: Brand New Orleans

I really enjoyed Christy’s post on Monday regarding the state of affairs in New Orleans a year after Katrina, Her link to the amazing Arabi Wrecking Krewe and the video of the great work that they are doing there for local musicians I found very inspiring.  I wanted to list a few more places to donate money to help out displaced musicians in one of our most musical of cities.

Habitat For Humanity is building a Musician’s Village in the 9th ward  partnered with Harry Connick Jr., and Branford and Ellis Marsalis

Preservation Hall’s New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund assists artists in returning to the Big Easy as well as providing aid to music educators and music venues.

Legendary New Orleans club Tipitina’s has a foundation to help artists and also donates musical instruments to New Orleans schools. Its goal is to put a musical instrument in the hands of every New Orleans student. Hallelujah!

I’d love to hear the Spin You’re In in the comments section.

Playlist Notes: This latest installment of The Spin I’m In comes on the heels of the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina that devastated the Gulf Coast and flooded Lake Pontchartrain, deluging the Lower Ninth Ward and much of the rest of New Orleans. This mix is an eclectic mix of music from NOLA musicians or inspired by the Crescent City.
