It's the end of the campaign world as she knows it
Katherine Harris’s Campaign Staff To Resign. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about
victims staffers bailing on her. And those on the way out aren’t mincing words about what the problem is on the tanking campaign:
The high command of Rep. Katherine Harris’s FL Senate bid plans to resign by the end of the week, two people familiar with the campaign tell the Hotline.
The departing staff includes Glen Hodas, Harris’s campaign manager, her spokesperson, Chris Ingram, and Pat Thomas, her field director. The status of Harris’s chief fundraiser, Erin Delullo, is not clear. The resignations will take effect by Friday, according to the sources. TooConservative, a Virginia-based blog, first reported this afternoon that several staffers would quit.
One person involved in the campaign said there was no single precipitating factor. “She’s just very difficult to work with. It’s all the same stuff. The more than we put her out there, the more she shot herself in the foot,” this person said.
This slate of staff lasted just three and a half months; in April, Harris lost her campaign manager, Jamie Miller, and strategist Ed Rollins. Both have since become outspoken critics of Harris’s.
Remember this howler?
“Let me tell you what the truth is. I’m staying. I’m in this race. I’m going to win. And let me tell you how. I’m going to put EVERYTHING on the line. Everything, not just my future and my reputation, my father’s name. I’m gonna take his legacy… Everything that I have and I’m gonna put it in this race. I’m going to commit my legacy from my father, $10 million… This is everything that I have.”— Katherine Harris to Sean Hannity on 3/15 — declaring how she’s going to spend it all to win.
Her campaign spokesbot had to come out and “clarify” that message. What a thankless job.
Why is she prolonging this agony? Mind you, it’s great that she’s staying in because it’s an easy win for Bill Nelson, but after being abandoned by her party (especially after what she did for Bush as Florida Sec of State in 2000), what is the motivation for continuing this train wreck of a campaign?
