33%: Cutting Into The Base

(This was my guest-post over at Firedoglake last night.)

More Americans disapprove than approve of how George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and Congress are doing their jobs, while a majority approves of Condoleezza Rice. President Bush’s approval hits a record low of 33 percent this week, clearly damaged by sinking support among Republicans. Faux News, breaking the bad news to the faithful with its latest poll

I figured that once we hit 33%, it would represent the bottom for the Chimperor. After all, there’s a hardcore Base, the blind followers of this disaster of a president who simply won’t give in, won’t accept the reality of major failures like Iraq, the rotten-to-the-core widespread corruption, or the fact that Bush is, to be charitable, a dunce and embarrassment at home and abroad.

You know what? I heard also howls coming from the fetid swamps of Freeperland when I saw that poll. At 33%, we are digging into the rotting flesh of the most vile, ardent fans of Dear Leader, and they are yelping in pain.

We have a few ready to abandon their man, others are still tethered to IVs filled with wingnut-flavored Kool-Aid concentrate. and a subset who, even by the swamp’s standards, are ready for the padded cell.

As I watched the TV today…I couldn’t help but wonder to myself…are we being represented AT ALL?? 6 posted on 04/20/2006 11:55:20 AM PDT by ConservativeMan55 (DON’T FIRE UNTIL YOU SEE THE WHITES OF THE CURTAINS THEY ARE WEARING ON THEIR HEADS !)

Will the RNC please nominate someone in 2008 who can speak well and sound somewhat smart? And please, no more rich people or sons of rich people (Bush family). Ronald Reagan – please extend your hand from the heavens and point us to this person.

That would be Rice, Jeb Bush, Rudy, or Romney.

You mean the Ronald Reagan all of you Dinasours whined about all thru the 1980s for negotiating with the Commies? Amazing how quick you all are to forget reality to create a revisionist history. You all did the same whining about Reagan back in the 1980s. Spare us the selective memory and psuedo historical claims.

I agree with the idea that Bush low poll numbers are in fact due to many people who voted for him, being really po’ed right now. The dems never liked him, understandable. But you don’t get this low in the polls without people who once supported you being really disillusioned with you.

And please, no more rich people or sons of rich people

I agree 100 percent. I’m very very upset. I’m not one of these people that want to be angry with him. Its simply the fact that…I’ve held my nose as long as I can.

Personally I don’t think it’s just a Bush problem, as much as it is a GOP problem. What do they stand for? Do they stand for smaller government? That’s a hard case to make with their spending. Are they for lower taxes? Hell, I just had to pay the AMT for the first time ever, what’s up with that? It all goes back to “that vision thing.”

The country doesn’t want liberals. The country doesn’t want half ass republicans. WE WANT CONSERVATIVES. Liberals end up getting elected because they either A: Pass themselves off as Conservatives or.. B: People get so angry with liberal republicans they vote third party or not at all..and some idiot like Spector gets elected.

You’re not the only one who feels this way. I’m really disappointed in Bush. I voted for him twice and don’t regret it, considering the alternative, but I am disappointed and getting a little nervous about November. The situation at the border infuriates me and his yammering about the ROP makes me sick and I’m damned sure not thrilled to see the Chinese Butcher in Chief feted at the White House by a Republican President.

But we have to keep things in perspective. I think that the President is doing a very good job in Iraq and Afghanistan. Don’t forget that he nominated and got Senate confirmation for Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court and we’re still enjoying the fruits of his tax cuts.

There’s allot of things I don’t like. Like having to apologize for being a white consevative working American male. But damn. We have Democratic Underground trolls lurking here all the time and they are loving this sort of thing. They copy these threads and post them over there and set back and LTAO. I lurk there to see what they are saying. To tell you the truth, this thread would fit right in over there if posted on the regular forum.

I headed over to Lucianne.com, to measure the pain of the true believers there. Mommy-of-Jonah runs a tight ship over there, yet some of the most vile, racist and unhinged bile outside of LGF can be found without digging very hard. Some of the lunatics in this hangout are actually blaming Faux News itself for Bush’s woesthe network’s been hijacked by the left.

I kid you not.

These polls are written to give the specific result the organization paying for the poll desires. Proof: Who won both elections? Elections are the only meaningful polls.

Reply 4 – Posted by: loislanee, 4/20/2006 8:39:33 PM Just wake up, would you? Like FOX of all companies is going to go out and commission a poll to make Bush look bad. Get real. Worst. President. Ever.

Reply 5 – Posted by: TiminPhoenix, 4/20/2006 8:39:40 PM While polls are biased for the most part against the president, his approval ratings are very low.

You have the Moonbat crowd of 40% of the country, the fools that voted for Kerry who are going to dislike Bush by habit.

You also have that mindless group in the middle that gives about one tenth of the thought they give to sports, to what is happening in the world. They are the bumpersticker middle. They after years of a media that no longer even attempts to hide their partisan ship has succumbed to the notion that it’s chic to hate Bush.

And then you have many conservatives, who are so angry, especially over Bush’s love of Shamesty on real border control, that they also somewhat poll against him.

Some of the lack of support is from people who are haters, those who are followers, and those who are the neglected base.

Reply 9 – Posted by: 4LadyK, 4/20/2006 8:49:35 PM Perhaps these polls are reflecting what a lot of us are feeling whether we voted for him or not: That he isn’t listening to us.

If I were polled right now, I’d give him a very low rating. I’m spittin’ mad about the illegal alien mess he sat on for so long. Plus, what happened to his whole “switching to ethanol” thing that he was talking about only a few months ago? brazil is TOTALLY SELF-SUFFICIENT on “sugar-gas”. He has had to many opportunities during his presidency to step up,like on SS, Immigration, fuel…and right now he is just letting them all go like dust in the wind. I am infuriated.

Reply 14 – Posted by: judy, 4/20/2006 9:13:49 PM Ask me how I feel about Fox. It stinks. It’s has been infiltrated with libs. Brit, Tony, Gibson & Ollie ar
e the only ones worth watching. Fox should watch their own shows, it would show they are turning into cnn 2. e I quit watching msnbc, & cnn because they always put a snitty remark when they describe anything Bush, now Fox is doing the same thing.

Reply 16 – Posted by: greggojo, 4/20/2006 9:21:15 PM This is ridiculous. The media cooks up biased nonsense about Bush and others in the Bush Administration, which (as Rush points out), sensible people must then straighten out, which takes time. Meanwhile, after pounding Bush with lie after lie and just pumping blatant biased misinformation into the national consiousness, the members of the media run out and ask loaded questions to get the responses they want about Bush. As people turn their attention to politics for the November elections, they will see through the fog and vote Republican (I hope and pray.) The truth is that the Democrats are as always, lying and incompetent and just scummy and they cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Reply 19 – Posted by: typhoon, 4/20/2006 9:25:03 PM I wonder what percentage of the 33% who think Bush is doing a good job are the illegals pouring into the country?

What will they do if Dear Leader dips into the 20s? How low can we go?
