First out lesbian named to the Arizona Senate
More historic news, in Bush lapdog McCain’s home state. (PageOneQ):
By a unanimous vote during their weekly meeting, the Pima County Board of Supervisors named Paula Aboud to the vacant District 28 State Senate seat for the remainder of the term. Aboud succeeds Gabrielle Giffords, who resigned to run for the Democratic nomination for the open U.S. House seat for Congressional District 8.
“I’m very honored by the Supervisors and District 28,” Aboud is quoted as saying after the vote by the Supervisors, required by Arizona law when a state legislative seat opens up. “I look forward to standing up for the rights of the people of Arizona.”
That’s good news out of Arizona. Here’s the bad news…Same-sex couple driven from Arizona due to adoption rules. Will Aboud be able to affect any change about this trend in her state? One out politician will have a hard time countering gay flight…
Nichole Soterwood kisses her 22-month-old son, Isaac, while her domestic partner, Jeanine Soterwood, makes travel arrangements in their home in Tucson, Ariz., on Dec. 10, 2005, for them to move to California. The couple is moving from Tucson because Arizona does not allow them to both be the legal guardians of Isaac.
