It looks like Mitt the sh*t is running for Prez
The gay-bashing governor of Massachusetts plans to announce that he will not run for another term, which is the signal that he wants to make a run for the White House. But will he be red-meat enough for the wingnuts? I haven’t heard a peep about burgeoning support for Mitt Romney so far. (Boston.com):
Governor Mitt Romney will announce at 6 p.m. that he will not seek re-election to a second term, setting the stage for an expected campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, a senior aide to the governor said today.
…The aide told the Boston Globe that Romney will announce that he will fill out his term, which ends in January, 2007. The move is widely seen as another step in his plans to launch a presidential campaign. His announcement today is expected to be televised live from the State House.
…Romney had cast himself as “a red speck in a blue state” during an October speech to a Washington think-tank, one of many similar comments across the country during the past year that had been viewed as disparaging Massachusetts — the land of the Kennedys and two failed Democratic candidates for president portrayed as out-of-touch liberals.
Mitt Romney is an ass. He famously said during a speech in front of fawning Utah Republicans back in February that gay marriage will destroy the international rep of the US.
Governor Mitt Romney drew a link between America’s prestige around the world and the legalization of same-sex marriages in Massachusetts.
“America cannot continue to lead the family of nations around the world if we suffer the collapse of the family here at home,” Romney said, calling the Supreme Judicial Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts ”a blow to the family.”
I took a quick surf over to Freeperland to take the temperature there. I think Mitt’s got a lot of work to do to win over that crowd…
“Given the latest legislation requiring religious hospitals to make abortions available, my contributions will go elsewhere.”
“He was never on my short list.”
“Hes not even on my long list! (Which includes Giuliani…shows you im not a fan of mitty.)”
“Isnt he one of those dumb as a post candidates?”
“i dont think he is dumb just not as conservative as most of us like”
“He will be one of very few GOP candidates who will not get the support of his own state. I don’t know of a single person, who is not a lib, who would support him for President.”
“South Carolina would be his downfall, just like McCain.”
“I don’t know of a single person, who is not a lib, who would support him for President. Libs support him? I don’t think so. I think he’s trying to position himself in the mushy middle.”
“Typical elitist New England mentality. I’m listening to Howie Carr (Boston), and even his callers don’t think he has a prayer. “Rino from Massachusetts Elected President”…not a headline we ever have to worry about seeing. What a delusional idiot.”
“Wait let me guess. There are a handful of freepers here who are going to say that his replacement must be a really liberal Republican, maybe a former head of NARAL. That’s the only way to win, we will be told.”
“I think he’ll portray himself as socially conservative–against gay marriage, pro life, pro war on terror and fiscally responsible. I don’t think he’ll be in the mushy middle at all–he’ll leave that for Frist.”
“To nice, we need a mean SOB, who will tell the DNC/MSM to go to hell, and F off!”
“Romney’s only chance of winning the GOP presidential nomination was if he got reelected in Massachusetts and explained that he is actually pro-life on abortion. By forgoing reelection, he has doomed his presidential run before it even began. I just hope Romney quits the presidential race early enough so that he can run for the Senate against Kerry in 2008.”
“Would he even carry Mass. in a general election? That could be as embarassing for him as Gore losing Tenn.”
“He’s from Massachuttes and therefore unfit. The same population elected Kennedy and Kerry.”
“He might have a better chance of running for Congress. There should be plenty of people torqued off by now in MA with Uncle Ted and John Effen Kerry.”
“You underestimate Romney — he would be a phenomenal president and would be dramatically more conservative than McCain.”
“Romney? President? Did you know Mad magazine has a younger children’s edition now?”
“To succeed in a liberal bastion like Massachusetts in the GOP, you have to play to the “mushy middle”. Massachusetts is just the east coast version of California, they’re both a lost cause in this day and age for Conservatism.”
“Just what we need, another Northeast Rino Princeling. STFU Mitt. Stay in Assachussets, ya gun grabbing fascist.”
