I love how this AgapePress piece doesn’t mention the stress balls (“items”) that were handed out at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day to promote the “ex-gay” movement (see my earlier post).

It looks like the Focus on the Anus crew are now taking a different approach to get suckers over to the TroubledWith web site — targeting people with seasonal/holiday depression — no mention of homosexuality as a disorder “that can be cured through faith” in this article. Isn’t that rich!

I guess if you are gay and click over there, they’ll just attempt to kill two birds with one stone…

Last month Focus on the Family (FOTF) began a campaign of prominent presence in New York City by running a 30-second spot on the Times Square Jumbotron to highlight “www.troubledwith.com,” a website that offers practical advice and counseling referrals for people dealing with a broad range of difficult issues. The ad also aired during the Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil shows in the New York market, and FOTF representatives were also on hand at New York City’s famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to hand out items promoting the TroubledWith.com site along the parade route.

The ministry is specifically targeting the holiday season with the website’s message of “where to go when you don’t know where to go” because of the reported increase in depression, abuse, and suicide during this time of year.

Steve Watters, FOTF’s Director of Marriage and Family Formation, says too many people are living “in quiet desperation, hurting and struggling through troubling situations because they just aren’t sure where to turn for help.” The objective of the TroubledWith.com campaign, he explains, is “to reach as many of those people as possible and offer them the help they desperately need.”
