Illinois Gay Rodeo – where's Peter LaBarbera?
The Executive Director of the Illinois Family Institute, Peter LaBarbera likes to do a little covert research on homosexual activities — specializing in observing male activities.
Will Peter “Leatherman” LaBarbera head over to the Illinois Gay Rodeo to check out the man action in chaps? I don’t see how he can resist going undercover to see what perversions he can reveal to his hardcore AmTaliban readership. After all, the rodeo has sponsorship by major corporations — Bud Light and American Airlines. I’m sure they need to be punished, right Petey?
Michael Cunningham understands if the notion of a gay rodeo conjures a few snickers. But the image of strapping young men in leather chaps is only part of the picture.
“This is a serious event,” said the vice president of the Illinois Gay Rodeo Association and co-director of this weekend’s Windy City Rodeo. “We’ll have top rodeo competitors from around the country.” Then, too, there’ll be music, dancing and a few events such as steer decorating, goat dressing and wild drag that can be found only at gay rodeos.
The 9th annual Windy City Rodeo 2005 will be held this Friday and Saturday at 6 Guns Ranch & Arena in south suburban Crete. Admission is $10 per person per day, with proceeds benefiting a number of charities.
The rodeo kicks off at noon both days. There will be a total of 13 events, with cowboys and cowgirls taking part in barrel racing, bronc riding, steer riding and numerous calf and steer roping events.
The Illinois Gay Rodeo Association (motto: “This ain’t yer daddy’s rodeo“) was founded in 1993 and is dedicated to promoting the country-western lifestyle through fundraisers. It is an outgrowth of the National Gay Rodeo first held in Reno, Nev., in 1976.
…The event also is big business, with sponsors such as Bud Light, Bacardi Silver, American Airlines and a host of local sponsors contributing to the prize money pool awarded in the various events, including All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl titles.
