The wait for Chimpy continues in Crawford
Another mother steps up for Cindy at the Crawford protest.
Minnesota State Sen. Becky Lourey arrived in Crawford, Texas, on Thursday only to learn that Cindy Sheehan, the Gold Star mother she went there to support, had left. Sheehan, mother of Casey Sheehan, a U.S. Marine killed in Iraq in 2004, left to be with her mother, who suffered a stroke Thursday in California.
Lourey, DFL-Kerrick, had hoped to meet Sheehan and offer her support. Instead she will serve as Sheehan’s surrogate at the growing Iraq war protest outside President Bush’s ranch. Lourey’s son Matthew Lourey, an Army helicopter pilot, also was killed in Iraq in May. Matt Lourey, a career Army pilot, was shot down in action north of Baghdad.
Lourey said Thursday evening she was on her way to join a group of women hoping to deliver a letter to first lady Laura Bush.
