Get to know your AmTaliban: Peter LaBarbera
“I have monitored the homosexual movement for 15 years, with special focus on its campaign to penetrate schools…Most parents, especially those living near big cities, simply have no clue as to the many ways that the ‘sexual orientation’ agenda works its way into their children’s education.”
(backing the Southern Baptist’s call to investigate the influence of the homo agenda in public schools)
“It seems that liberals are afraid of Christians who will run for office as Christians. It’s ironic that a group that fights discrimination is willing to basically foment discrimination against people of faith. I just found it shocking.”
(whining that Christian candidates for public office feel like they have to “be in the closet about their faith.”)
“We’re opposed to the use of taxpayer dollars to promote an event that celebrates homosexuality. The idea of using sport to promote homosexuality is wrong.”
(calling on Chicago to withdraw support for the 2006 Gay Games)
Here’s a little background on this busybody on the Right.
* He is the founder of Americans for Truth, which called for ‘Decade of Silence’ for Pro-Homosexual School Activists,” because of the perceived infestation of the gay agenda in schools.
* On the higher ed front, he’s also the former executive director of Accuracy in Academia (AIA).
* LaBarbera’s also written for wingnut Accuracy in Media, which exposes alleged liberal media bias.
* The Southern Poverty Law Center has one of LaBarbera’s former hangouts, Concerned Women for America, on its watchlist of extremist anti-gay organizations. He was the senior policy analyst for CWA’s Culture and Family Institute.
* Mr. LaBarbera is the former publisher of the Lambda Report on Homosexual Activism, a newsletter that “monitored the gay movement “using homosexual sources.” The online version of this has earth-shattering articles like: “Private Schools Are Promoting Homosexuality to Children.”
Eva of Lloydletta passed on some other interesting information about this member of the AmTaliban, who, as you can see, is a card-carrying member of the Wingnuttery Brigade.
When he worked for the Concerned Women, his job was going to gay days at Disney, SF gay pride, all gay events in Bush White House (for gay employees) – etc. for “research”.
Peter has a rather large gay porn collection – more “research” – and this year, as ED of the Illinois Family Institute felt it necessary to attend International Mr Leather in Chicago – also for “research” purposes.
He does get on gay lists and lurk – to gather intelligence (kind of like what you do with the “actual freeper quotes).
Eva, who also managed the honor of being “attacked” by CWA, got a hold of a mailing from LaBarbera and the latest flaming pile of crap from him. The latest crusade, is about the Gay Games in Chicago. It’s driving him nuts. Eva notes that Cook County Republicans pulled their support of the Gay Games because Peter got the sheeple to flood them with emails, so he has been quite effective. [The AFA has been calling for a boycott of Kraft, a major sponsor of the 2006 Gay Games as well. My posts on that are here and here .]
Here’s LaBarbera’s call for action against the Illinois Bureau of Tourism. To me this sounds like a call for all gay folks to go spend some money in the Windy City. Pass that along, lol.
Going after the “gay” dollar with your tax money?
ACTION: Tell the Illinois Bureau of Tourism not to spend one dime of your taxpayer money to promote the “Gay Games”–an athletic contest for homosexuals that will be held in Chicago next July. IFI has received word that Gay Games organizers have applied for a state grant to run ads urging homosexuals from across the nation and presumably the world to come to Chicago for these Homosexuality “Games.”
It is wrong to promote homosexuality, but it is worse to do so with your hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Write Tourism Director Jan Kostner today at: firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 312-814-4733 to express your strong opposition to the use of taxpayer dollars to celebrate homosexuality.
Background: Big ad buy for Homosexuality ‘Games’? IFI has just been informed by State Tourism Bureau Jan Kostner that her department is reviewing a grant application for a promotional campaign to draw homosexuals to the “Gay Games.” Kostner said the grant application will be reviewed in the next few weeks, and is being judged using economic criteria only. When I asked her whether the views of those with moral concerns about using taxpayer dollars to promote the “Gay Games” would be taken into account in the review process, she said no.
This is outrageous: the people of Illinois should have a say over which events are promoted using their taxpayer funds. Koster emphasized that the Tourism Bureau is NOT funded through general taxes but rather through the an Illinois hotel/motel tax. However, this means that if the “Gay Games” grant is approved and you have stayed in an Illinois hotel or motel, the taxes YOU paid will be used to promote an event designed in part to celebrate homosexuality.
Out of staters fund “Games,” too. Please send this email to your out-of-state friends, because they, too, could be funding the “Gay Games” with their tax dollars if they stay in a hotel in Illinois.
…We doubt the exaggerated claims of “gay” activists who say the “Gay Games” will bring in $50 million in tourist money to Illinois. Homosexuals may be better off financially than the average Joe, but I doubt they can spend THAT much! After all, as reported by the “gay” press, the homosexual “Games” have been a financial disaster in Montreal and Amsterdam, where they were held before.
But even if the “Gay Games” does bring significant tourist money into Chicago, there are some things that are far more important than money. It is simply wrong to promote homosexuality and other immoral behaviors in the name of sport. Send a message to your government that money isn’t everything. We don’t want Illinois being known as a homosexual tourist mecca.
“Gay Games” as Change Agent In case you are tempted to view the “Gay Games” as just another athletic contest, consider that the founder of this worldwide event, Dr. Tom Waddell, described it as “an experiment in social unity; an experiment in education; a vehi
cle for change.” (See our story on the Cook County “Gay Games” resolution that included that statement of purpose. Click HERE for our story on Kraft Foods’ and Harris Bank’s sponsorship of the Homosexuality “Games.”)
In other words, the “Gay Games” are intended to promote the acceptance of homosexuality, a behavior that is as wrong and harmful today as it was 5,000 years ago. How sad, and talk about robbing the noble purpose of sport for ignoble ends!
Stand up for what’s right: make that call or send that e-mail to help ensure that YOUR tax dollars aren’t used to celebrate the homosexual lifestyle.
Sincerly in Christ,
