Back in NC

Hey, folks. I’m back, but won’t be up to political posting speed for a bit. Still unpacking, petting the doggies and feeling pretty exhausted (physically and mentally). Will have more Alabama pix later.

All and all, it was a good trip. I have to share our nightmare AM at the Tutwiler Hotel on Sunday morning. I had just finished showering, and I hear this dripping, which becomes a torrential downpour. I look at the spigot and the water is off. I step out and there is water POURING out of the fan in the ceiling.*

I calmly tell Kate “Oh sh*t, it’s raining in the bathroom.” [Kate says I said it so matter of factly — like it’s an everyday occurrence — that she didn’t believe it at first until she heard it herself and came in, lol.] So, here we are rushing to get some clothes on, empty our stuff out of the bathroom and pack, knowing that once we call downstairs the maintenance folks will fly up. We call, and no one comes after 10 minutes. The water is still pouring down, and it’s soapy — it’s the folks up in 613 taking a shower. Bleh!

We catch housekeeping in the hall and have him radio down to get someone up there, and we roll our bags out (we were going over to Kate’s folks house that AM, so we were leaving for the day anyway). The gal at the front desk gave us a free breakfast, and, well, to make a long story short, we stayed at her parents’ house last night.

*Note: this was room 513, so if you’re ever staying at the Tutwiler, beware!
